"Manx" has some thoughts about William Barr.
Short and sweet: How in Hades did Trump come up with this guy – William Barr – as the next AG? Yes, Barr was AG for a few years under Bush Sr. Before that he worked for Reagan and before that CIA. Superficially that leads a person to think good conservative values.
Barr was AG at the time of the Ruby Ridge debacle. That made him top dog over the Marshal Service and FBI who were the lead law enforcement agencies at Ruby Ridge in pursuit of Randy Weaver (they were following up on a pitiful case ATF created against Weaver). Barr has claimed he really wasn’t aware what was going on out in northern Idaho when it occurred. Wasn’t aware the focus of Ruby Ridge – Weaver - became an instant widower and lost a son at the hands of Feds shooting and killing them. Barr must have been one heck of a delegator.
Upon leaving Civil Service and going “private” he worked pro bono to defend the FBI sniper who shot and killed Weaver’s wife. Must have taken him some time to come up to speed over a matter he didn’t previously know about.
Barr has long held 2nd Amendment views that don’t go over big at NRA meetings and with local gun clubs.
Barr's pro bono rep of FBI marksman Lon Horiuchi was probably due to his guilty conscience for successfully dodging all responsibility for the murders at Ruby Ridge. If the Democrats have any huevos they will bring it up in the confirmation process.

I agree. How/why did Trump pick this guy. Listening to him talk about how Mueller is doing a good job and should be allowed to finish his investigation is nauseating. I want to know when he'll fire and indict the entire Mueller coup cabal and start charging Hillary, FBI and CIA leaders, Obama and his admin Deep State criminals. I was hoping for someone like Gowdy, Jordan, Geo Patton.
